7 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Traveled to Cuba

Fasari has inspired us to travel and explore new places. Earlier this year, we took a trip to Cuba. Cuba is a beautiful country that only recently has legally allowed Americans to visit. We were mesmerized by the beauty of the country and its people.

Here are a few things that took us by surprise:

7. The people are extremely nice!

Cubans are some of the most welcoming and kind people you will ever meet. Their love for people transcends. Your stay in Cuba will be vey pleasant if you choose to interact with the locals.

6. The weather is temperate and not very hot

Cuban climate is subtropical. It is warm during the day and cool in the mornings and night. Make sure to pack a light sweater and pants.

5. You cannot book Airbnb accommodations online in Cuba

Be certain to book all your Airbnb reservations prior to leaving for Cuba. Once you're in Cuba, the government blocks you from making Airbnb reservations. The Cuban people are nice and accommodating. You can knock on someone's front door and if they have room will accommodate you for a small cost.

4. Internet access is scarce

In the US, the internet is at our fingertips. In Cuba, access to internet is limited. You can purchase an internet card (Tarjeta De Navegacion) from any ETECSA (the national Cuban telecommunication company) location or major hotel (Hotel Parque, Hotel Nacionale). There are hotspots at public parks and hotels that have internet where you can access the internet using the card.

3. Toilet paper goes into the trash

In Cuba, like in many other Latin American countries, the toilet systems cannot handle toilet paper. Toilet paper goes into the trash and not the toilet...even when you do numero 2!

2. It is easy to clear immigration and customs...no need to worry

We were worried about the reason to give about our visit to Cuba. The truth is the Cuban immigration officers do not care. They do not need proof of what you will be doing during your visit. They are excited to welcome you and your business. Relax...one less thing to worry about.

1. Good food is difficult to find

We were excited to try mouth watering food in Cuba but quickly disappointed. You need to know were to go for good food in Cuba. It is not readily available. But when you do find good food, it is delicious!
